Will Ferrell, who will forever live in our hearts and minds as the iconic Ron Burgundy, was doing press for his upcoming ‘Everything Must Go’, had a little something to say about Paramount studios for rejecting their idea for an ‘Anchorman’ sequel. The original move grossed 90 million $ worldwide on a 25 million $ budget. So, that’s pretty much a win, wouldn’t you say ? Will Ferrell suggests fans come up with a good email hate campaign to try to convince the studio we want this..:
‘ you’d have to really assert some kind of email hate campaign to Paramount picture because they’ve told us, quote unquote, ‘We’ve run the numbers and it’s not a good fit,'”
Bull Hockey!! I know, almost everyone I know (meaning me, and my sisters.) would go see this film, maybe even twice! And for sure buy the Dvd/Blu Ray. Poor Will.
“Well, you know, yeah, it’s a little peculiar. On the one hand, [we were] being begged to do a sequel for such a long time, and then we finally came up with a concept that we liked, we talked to all the guys, and everyone was up for it,” he revealed. “And then to get the reaction we got, yeah, it’s slightly puzzling to us. But you know what? It’s also their money. They get to do or not do whatever they want. So we’ll see. We’re still going back and forth. Maybe there is a solution. Or, I know in talking to Adam, if it never happens, then it never happens. And that’s fine, too. So we’ll just see.”(EW)
It doesn’t sound like it will happen to me, which is sad- I don’t understand how they can make 8 billion Fast Furious Furiously Driving and Racing movies, but can do one measly sequel to one of the greatest comedies ever made ‘Anchorman’. Apparently Will even took the 4 episode arc on ‘The Office’ (which is brilliant by the way) and the fully spanish language indie movie, because the big budget comedies just aren’t being made or falling through.
“As the bigger studio movies become less and less, in terms of these comedies where you’re picking out one of five, it was like, O.K., if those are all going to go away, it’s an exciting time for me to make some more artful choices,” “And to put it out there that I’m looking forward to the potential of working with different types of material and other directors who wouldn’t necessarily think of me.”(NYT)
So, this is just sad guys. WHY YOU MAKE FERRELL CRY?! He can do things other than zany comedy ya know? Did you see ‘Stranger Than Fiction’? What about ‘Melinda and Melinda’?? No? Maybe ya should, because they’re great. RIP Anchorman.
