Sounds like Afroman needs to take his own advice to smoke up some and relax and stop punching people in the face. Especially in the middle of his own concerts.
Dressed in beads and rocking his trademark afro for the Fat Tuesday show, Afroman was playing guitar as a female listener approached the stage. Disturbing video from the event that is making the rounds shows the young woman edging closer to the musician and beginning to dance against him as she holds a drink in her hand.
As soon as Afroman noticed her, he swung his arm back quickly and punched the fan hard enough that she fell immediately to the ground. Seemingly unfazed by the altercation, the rapper went right back to playing and continued his set.
“This was a completely involuntary reflex reaction to people infringing on his stage space,” a rep for Afroman told Billboard in a statement. “It was uncharacteristic behavior that was initiated by outside uncontrolled forces.”
According to TMZ, the Grammy-nominated performer was then taken away in handcuffs by police. The local ABC and CBS affiliate WLOX reports that Afroman paid his $330 bond, and the police chief told the station that he “gave us no problem whatsoever.”
I’m scared of people who’s first response to someone getting too close is to punch them in the face. But that’s just me.
